By the time Cornerstone Magazine did their extensive research into this self-proclaimed Satanist, I myself had become a witch. Not a satanic witch though I did stumble over a few books during my own research… it was not the path I chose. I discovered what I perceived at the time to be the perfect religion… Wicca, the craft of the wise and a belief system based on harmony with nature and all life forms. It was the peace I sought in my life, or so I thought.
It would be years before I read of the deception of this testimony that had already spread like wild fire to not only the Christian world but police forces across the nation. The satanic panic was burning out of control and its head, the ex-Satanist was daring to tell it all but methodically the real truth was being uncovered as Cornerstone Magazine began receiving conflicting information about the author’s story.
Jon Trott and Mike Hertenstein were hot on his trail, digging up old friends and acquaintances from Mike Warnke's past, or the lack thereof. They searched college and military records… even found photos of the time Mr. Warnke claimed to have long hair and six inch fingernails but his picture instead revealed your ordinary college freshmen with both short hair and nails. He was painting a picture of this radical devil worshiper when in reality; his circles of satanic brotherhood with campus rituals were unknown to his close college friends… In fact, they described him as one big story teller.
From all outward appearances it seemed Mr. Warnke was a typical college freshmen and his satanic involvement a figment of his imagination. Whether there is any more to his youth-induced behaviors other than your typical college pranks, partying and dabbling with Ouija boards, only God knows. Yet, Mr. Warnke’s claim to fame created a domino effect with even more jumping on the band wagon over the years, in hopes to become an authority in the field of the occult. As strange as it may sound, you would think Christian researchers Jon Trott and Mike Hertenstein would never agree on anything with Satanist Zeena Lavey and her partner, Nikolas Schreck, but they actually concur on this subject. As Jon and Mike reference in their article Selling Satan, The Tragic History of Mike Warnke… “The misinformation about Mike's testimony is still in circulation, influencing how Christians view contemporary Satanism. For the sake of the Church and the watching world, it must be corrected.”
During a Bob Larson Interview, well known Satanists Zeena and Nikolas describe a self-styled Satanist in this way, “We condemn those as being ignorant not based in either historical or religious tradition and they are anathema to us. They give us a bad name”. I see this somewhat humorous coming from a Satanist.
My own misguided journey began with a testimonial book that was a lie… that set me searching for truth only to detour me further away from it. It is because of The Satan Seller that I have a personal crusade in regard to being honest when sharing a testimony. God has enough miraculous stories without man-made fabrications. Only the truth… will set you free, so why waste time making up fables, and even worse, leading one astray.
"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death." Rev. 12:11
