An article of this magnitude would make you believe it was the hideous crime of a satanic group, but that is not the case. Ironically, it was a death caused by the "Word of Life Christian Church". To think that such an act would ever happen within the walls of a church in unimaginable. Churches who use fear and intimidation as a means to control their members, such as was the case with Word of Life, who instilled the fear of hell in their congregation, to anyone who considered leaving and stepping out as they claimed "from under God’s will", are actually engaging in manipulation and practicing witchcraft. Worse yet, they are doing so in the name of God. In another twist to the story, the church accused Lucas himself of practicing witchcraft. Apparently in his desperate attempt to escape the church he made reference that he had considered voodoo as an option to freedom. It is said that the beatings were in part an attempt to get the boys to repent from their attempt to leave the church. Yet, considering this, one has to wonder if it were more an attempt to beat the devil out of them.
You may question who would participate in this deadly deliverance? Sadly, his own parents and sister were part of this extreme disciplinary action. Surely the spirit of death was within the sanctuary provoking the pastor during the interrogation which quickly escalated into the group’s brutal beating. You wonder how the parents could witness, let alone participate in beating their own flesh and blood. What seems even harder to fathom is that the ordeal began Sunday evening and lasted throughout the night until Monday without any church intervention and only stopped after Lucas took his last breath. Not all who come in the name of the Lord are true followers of Jesus and this is an example of a church bearing a Christian label while operating under demonic influence. The warning signs were there... a secretive group that cut off ties with family outside of the church, controlling leadership, children who were homeschooled and indoctrinated into their faith, holidays such as, Halloween and Christmas were taboo, even television was off limits. Yet, strange chants could be heard coming from their building, dogs howled all hours of the night and fires burned on the rooftop. We always need to use discernment and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us as it is so important to have the Word of God written on our hearts. That way, when we encounter false prophets, we will not be led astray by their false doctrines.
2 John 9-11, “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds”.
